- INTRODUCTION:
- Welcome to Guitar Tab Index! This is a program I wrote which allows a
- BBS to run the door as a retrieval program for Guitar TAB, which I
- collected from Internet (and can play a lot of, too.) All the files
- are preserved in Text format, in their own folders, and you can add
- and delete files and artists easily.
-
- INSTALLATION:
- The steps to installation are simple. Follow the steps outlined below:
- • Using the New Folder menu choice in the Finder, or an equivalent,
- create a folder for the GTI support files.
- • Copy the GTI application to the same folder as your
- bulletin board.
- • In your host bbs application, set up a menu choice where you want
- to run an external application, in this case GTI. In Red
- Ryder Host this is done with MenuEdit (for more in-detail help,
- please refer to your Host manual). In Mansion, this is done
- through the built-in menu editor. In the WWIV system, pressing
- the proper key while waiting for a call will bring you to the
- external application setup.
- • Run your bulletin board, and launch GTI. This will allow
- you to enter the correct pathnames via a dialog box, as well as
- giving you the option of a log file or no log file (marking when
- people have entered or exited GTI). Setup and running the
- application work ONLY if you launch from your bulletin board
- application, otherwise GTI does not find the "Launch BBS"
- or corresponding file (depending on which bbs program you are
- using) that it requires to work correctly. If you need to re-
- configure the GTI data after moving your bbs application or
- the folders, it is easiest to open your System Folder and drag
- the "GTI Options" file to the trash.
- • Quit from GTI, and your bulletin board will now be able to
- run the external door.
-
- OTHER INFO:
- If you are running under multifinder, select the "No Local Echo" in the
- sysop menus, and the window will not appear.
-
- To add or delete entries in the Artist Listing, you simply need to open
- the file "ArtistIndex" in the GTI folder with a text editor. The first
- part of each line is the name of the FOLDER where the artist's tab is
- located, (which must be in the GTI folder itself). This must have NO
- SPACES or special file characters. The rest of the line is what is
- displayed in the door.
-
- To add or delete entries in the Song Listing, in each Artist's folder
- there is a file called "SongIndex". Each line is a separate entry, and
- you can edit the file with any text editor. The first part of the line
- is the name of the file, NO SPACES or special chars. The rest of the line
- is the name of the tab, and any comments.
-
- Limitations on folder and song names are currently 40 characters. I would
- advise using less, though if needed I will expand the capability later.
-
- Future versions might use tab or other delimiting rather than spaces, but
- not unless I get comments/response on this program. (which may and probably
- does duplicate most G-file section capabilites.)
-
- BUG FIX AND ADDITION HISTORY:
- 07/15/92 Initial Release.
-
- SHAREWARE FEES:
- As a reminder, THIS IS SHAREWARE. I know how you don't like to spend
- too much money running an expensive phone line, board software, and
- occupying a mac all day, but I consider bulletin board sysops to be of
- a higher nature than most users. Which means (if you haven't already)
- you will find it in your hearts to send me (Benjamin Kuo, write that
- name on the check, please), a lousy $10 for which you will receive a
- disk in the mail with the latest version.
-
- The author reserves all rights to the program. Local
- bulletin boards may distribute this program with the documentation, in
- StuffIt format, freely, providing that they do not gain any renumeration
- besides the operating costs. This program may not be distributed with any
- commercial software without the author's written permission. User groups
- are free to distribute the program in monthly disks and to include the
- program on any CD-ROM (such as BMUG's PD-ROM) or public domain library,
- as long as there is no charge beyond costs of media. Public domain
- distribution companies, including EDUCOMP, PD•EXCHANGE, and so-called
- "National User Groups" MAY NOT DISTRIBUTE or SELL this program in any way,
- without the express written permission of the author.
